Conclusion
If you love a good woody red wine or you want that jammy fruit flavor, you can’t go wrong with this Merlot. Our personal opinion is that the wood notes are to present, therefor a bit out of balance. For the price we can’t complain and we defiantly had worse. Price and quality wise you will get what you are paying for and that is a good wine that goes well with your food. It does makes us wonder if the strong wood notes are from maturing their wine in barrels or putting wood chips with the red wine, or even both. Serve this Merlot at 16 degrees if you don’t want the wood notes to be that pronounce. But if you want that woody red wine serve it a bit higher so the wood notes can develop in your glass. Roche’ is French for “rock” in reference to the clayey limestone soils of the Pays d’Oc region. ‘Mazet’ is a stone shelter for farmers, winegrowers and breeders, symbolising a person in the very middle of the vines. Founded in 1998 inside Société des Vins de France, Roche Mazet’s sole ambition is to commercialise a well-made and affordable Pays d’Oc wine. The brand was launched in 1998 with a small range of two varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon. The range grew, adding new grape varieties and different formats. Today, Roche Mazet offers 7 varieties as still wines and 3 sparkling.
